But a bit of googling suggests that his boutiques will open in “select” stores this coming summer. I would like to note that Neiman Marcus has nothing on their website as of yet that would indicate that Mondo will be selling his wears yet. I also love the mirrorball tassel accessory. It was a fantastic way to foray into evening wear without losing sight of the theme. Everything else is black and white and silver/grey. The red that’s been hinting around the edges suddenly appears in full bloom, but it’s the only color to be had. This outfit completely fit in with the rest of the line. I like to think that Mondo was fearless in making his own fabric due to that experience.Ī stunner of a closer, and I disagree with Angela vehemently. One of the best things ProjRun added was the “make your own fabric” challenge. This dress really showed off the inkblot pattern Mondo created. Mondo’s inkblot inspiration was a great jumping off point for this collection, and it was a highlight in every outfit it appeared in. But I think what really makes this outfit is the inkblot blouse. As do the return of the huge round buttons and hilarious pockets. The small size of the polka dots in question on the pants certainly help. Had I really written “love” and “polka dot pantsuit” in the same sentence? Yet, there it was. When this came down the runway I wrote “I love the polka dot pantsuit.” Then I looked at my notes in horror. I’m not a big fan of the clear squares down the sides of the leggings–they strike me as how to make leggings worse–but it’s highly impressive how he made the “sixth outfit” look like it was planned all along. This was Mondo’s sixth outfit, a fact that the judges were completely blown away by, since it blends seamlessly in with the first two outfits. Somehow Mondo’s polka dots feel more square? Perhaps that’s in comparison to the large round buttons and those hilariously fabulous round pockets. It amuses me that Mondo’s most Kenley-esque outfit was worn by Kenley’s old moddle. But at the time, I thought it must have come from the Needless Markup wall. If I had known the purse was made by mondo, from the inkblot fabric he made himself, I might have understood it better. But unlike Michael and Austin’s spoiler outfits, this piece didn’t give us a good sense of where the collection was going. Not that it isn’t a fun outfit, nd not that each piece would be an excellent stand alone. This was Mondo’s spoiler outfit from last week, and I have to admit, that when I saw it originally, outside of the rest of his work, I was worried. For that alone, in my eyes, Mondo deserved to take this win. Austin and Michael on the other hand, seem to have stayed relative to where they were when we last saw them. But if you look back at his original finale line, in comparison to what he put out today, Mondo has shown real growth. Was this show one big plot to give Mondo the win? Certainly, of the three finalists, Mondo’s collection was the most cohesive.
